Why It's Good to Have a Specialty Policy
Not all Boat Policies are the Same. Items like homes and cars are insured on standardized insurance forms, so for the most
part everyone gets the same basic coverage regardless of the carrier. But with boats, there are no standard insurance forms. Each carrier develops their own
policy, which results in some policies being very comprehensive, others being very basic, and most being somewhere in between. Plus, some carriers
understand boat owners needs better than others. With so many choices out there, it's a good idea to go with a carrier that specializes in boat insurance.
Specialty Policies Protect You against Lots of Things That Can Happen. Sometimes you can cover your boat by adding an
endorsement to a policy you already have. But, that coverage is usually pretty basic. To obtain increased coverage limits, as well as coverage options such
as uninsured watercraft and emergency towing, you need the protection of a specialty policy.
Boat Coverages
- Physical Damage Coverage. Covers damage to your boat. We provide Agreed Value coverage for boats new to ten years old, Market Value for older boats.
- Liability Coverage. You can be held liable for injuries that happen to others while you are boating. Our policies provide both liability protection and coverage for bodily injury to family members. We also provide a sub-limit for family members, which means you and your family are protected under our liability coverage.
- Medical Payments. Pays medical bills resulting from an accident that happens as a result of operating you PWC. Provides protection to policy limits for the policyholder, immediate family members, as well as non-family members involved in the accident.
- Trailer Coverage. This optional coverage protects the trailer you use to tow your boat.
- Full Replacement Cost on Parts. If a part on your boat breaks and the part is less than two years old, we'll pay to fully replace the part.
- Advantage Endorsement. Additional protection at no extra charge. Includes the following coverages:
- Uninsured Watercraft. Protects you when another boater collides with the boat you are operating and that boater is not properly insured.
- Non-owned Watercraft Liability. Extends your policy's liability coverage to any boat you operate.
- Personal Effects Coverage. Protection for personal belongings stored inside the boat that are suddenly lost, stolen or damaged.
- Emergency Assistance and Towing. Protects you if your boat breaks down on the water; and even if your trailer breaks down while you are taking your boat somewhere.
Want higher limits for the coverages listed above? Ask your agent about our Advantage Plus Endorsement.
In "The Birds," the 1963 thriller by Alfred Hitchcock, movie audiences were aghast at the sight of angry birds using their tiny beaks to peck, peck, peck at screaming victims. It was the kind of scary stuff that helped Hitchcock become known as a master of suspense and horror. In real life, birds' preferred method of attack is, um, more subtle, although skippers can be equally as horrified when they see what's been splattered all over their boats' dodgers, biminis, and decks.
